Animation Production Day (APD) is a business platform for the international animation industry. Co-production, financing and distribution partners for animation projects meet there and exchange views on the industry’s current challenges.

APD takes place on April 28 and 29 as part of the 23rd Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film 2016 and FMX 2016, Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Transmedia. It is organized by the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH.

Each year, 30 to 35 animation projects are selected to participate in APD. Last year, around 120 participants from 12 countries negotiated over 37 selected animation projects.

German and international producers can submit their projects for participation until February 22.

The chances of finding suitable production and financing partners at APD are good. Around one third of the concepts presented there in recent years were also produced.

Programs for Different Areas

  • The “Producers for Co-Production” program section is designed especially for those who are not presenting their own project at APD, but are looking for projects in which they can participate as co-producers or service providers. Games producers are also to be increasingly involved here in the future.
  • Since 2015, APD has cooperated with Cartoon, European Association of Animation Film. Up to three of the German series projects presented at APD can qualify directly for participation in Cartoon Forum in Toulouse.
  • APD offers up to twelve young emerging German producers seeking support for the realization and financing of their project funding for participation in APD.
