Base Grade
According to Filmlight, more than 50 new features are being added in total. Base Grade in particular is intended to offer artists a much more intuitive colour-grading option than before by no longer following the traditional lift/gamma/gain approach, instead providing a set of controls that imitates the way the eye perceives colour: through exposure, colour temperature and balance.
HDR Option & More
HDR capabilities have also been added via “Colour Space Families”, greatly simplifying the delivery process for different viewing environments such as TV, 4K projection and handheld devices.
Further features will include: a perspective operator that can be used for screen replacement and rear projection, as well as perspective tracking of images, shapes, brush strokes or grid warps using four 1-point trackers or the new perspective-capable Area Tracker. There is also now a Grid Warper, a dedicated blue- and greenscreen keyer, a Paint Tool for retouching, a Relight Tool for placing virtual lights in a scene, and a Matchbox Shader.
Metadata-based grading, one of Baselight’s specialities, has also been improved, and in version 5.0 users will find a new approach to remote grading for working at workstations located in different places.
Availability
The Baselight 5.0 release will be available for all BLG-capable Filmlight products, including the Daylight dailies and media-management platform as well as Baselight for Avid or Nuke. Filmlight will present its product range at NAB from April 18 to 21.
