With the UMC-S3C, Sony presents what it claims is the first video camera to combine high sensitivity with video recording at 4K resolution. It can record video and colour still images at 12 megapixels. At just 400 grams, the new camera is currently the most compact Sony on the full-frame camera market.
Below 0.004 lx, the UMC-S3C offers the highest sensitivity in its class (ISO 409,600). This is made possible by the 35 mm full-frame sensor and Exmor image processor. According to the manufacturer, E-mount lenses ensure that resolution remains high from the centre of the lens to the edges of the image.
The camera supports the XAVC-S format, enabling a recording quality with a bit rate of 100 Mbit/s. A 64 GB memory card can record up to 125 minutes of 4K footage in standard quality (30 frames/s, 60 Mbit/s). The camera offers various playback functions using a PC as well as Live View via HDMI. Sony’s UMC-S3C will be available from summer 2016.
