In the course of IBC in Amsterdam, Adobe has already presented the upcoming features of several Creative Cloud apps, including Premiere, After Effects, Character Animator and Audition. Alongside VR integration, there are many new workflow features and tools. Anyone who already wants to use VR features in Premiere and After Effects should take a look at this article. Adobe intends to release the update later this year; there is no exact release date yet. Here we give an overview of the most important new features.

Adobe Premiere Pro CC

  • 360/VR Features with VR Video Mode, Dynamic Link to the VR Comp Editor in After Effects and 360 audio tools. Transitions and effects for 360° content have also been added, including VR Blur, VR De-noise and more.
  • Multiple Projects Simultaneously: With this new function, you can open and edit several projects in Premiere simultaneously – with all available functions.
  • With Team Projects you can now also edit simultaneously with several people. New are the “Project Locking” functions for distributing editing rights and avoiding chaos in collaboration.
  • Motion Graphics Templates from the last release are now more responsive with the new update. This allows you to adjust parameters such as duration, aspect ratio or frame size while retaining the respective look or animation of the motion graphic.

Adobe After Effects CC

  • 360/VR Features with a new VR Comp Editor and Dynamic Link to Premiere Pro. In addition to effects such as VR Blur and VR De-noise, which are also included in Premiere, After Effects also includes new VR Color Gradient, VR Digital Glitch and VR Fractal Noise effects!
  • Data-Based Animation: In the new version, you can import JSON data and automatically generate and animate graphs or charts from it.
  • Animate Path Points: Bezier path points of masks, shape layers and brush strokes can now be controlled individually via expressions. To simplify this, Adobe has also created a new “Create Nulls from Paths” script.
  • 3D Pipeline for C4D with the new R19 Lite update for various improvements, including Parallax Shader, Vertex Color and FBX 2017 as well as Alembic 1.6 import functions.
  • Performance and Workflow improvements with GPU support for Motion Blur, Keyboard Shortcut Mapping (, which is already familiar from Premiere) and a new live font preview are also included in the upcoming version.

Character Animator CC

  • New Behaviours for animating characters have been added, including collision physics, Layer Picker and Fader behaviours. Here is a preview of the new behaviours.
  • Trigger Behaviours can be organised and triggered in the new Trigger panel via an assigned shortcut or MIDI device.
  • New Control Panel: In the panel, you can create and operate graphical controls for the respective triggers and behaviours of the characters. Connection to a MIDI device is also possible here.
  • Pose-to-Pose Animation: When transferring poses from your live performance, you can now adjust the transitions between different poses over time and thereby create certain styles.
  • Further New Features are also available for lip syncing for better adjustment of mouth shapes, new rigging automations and interface improvements.

Adobe Audition CC

  • “Auto-Ducking” in the Essential Sound panel automatically adjusts the volume of music when dialogue or other sounds are audible. You can see the new feature in action here.
  • Editing and Performance Improvements including up to 400% faster mixdown, more operations without interrupting real-time playback, and expanded crossfade features.
