The New Features in Brief
First things first: in OpenToonz 1.2, all shader effects now work. Also new is the Brush Engine, which comes with new brush shapes and a window for lip sync. OpenToonz also now possesses a horizontal timeline (for approx. 40 frames). Furthermore, the Vector Brush has an automatic snapping function and the framerange option is supported. The latter enables interpolation between selected frames.
Problems on Older Hardware
The fact that the shader effects now work is fundamentally pleasing. To achieve this, however, OpenToonz had to revise the software heavily, which causes problems on older hardware. For example, the brushes respond with a delay. If you own newer and fast hardware, however, this is hopefully not the case. The 2D animation software has been freely available as an open-source version since last year. For the download and further information about Open Toonz, click here.
