Postproduction with Adobe Creative Cloud directly on the expedition ship

Postproduction on an expedition ship? The three young filmmakers Dennis Vogt, Tim David and Michael Ginzburger ventured to Antarctica to shoot footage for their film “Project: Antarctica” in the freezing cold and edit it on location with Adobe Creative Cloud tools. By the way: Creative Cloud is available only until 5.11.2018 at the special price of €35.69/month (instead of €59.49).

The aim of the film “Project: Antarctica” was to shake up the documentary genre. The message: Do not listen to suggestions like “Why not do something sensible”, but dare to follow your own paths. So the trio travelled to Antarctica to explore boundaries and question social ideals. The film has officially been showing in German cinemas since October 25.

The three filmmakers travelled 14,000 kilometres to Antarctica to collect more than 120 hours of video footage at temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees and with wet equipment against their bodies. The young filmmakers chose Adobe Creative Cloud for postproduction: »We have a lot of motion graphics, which is why an uncomplicated workflow between After Effects and Premiere Pro CC was important to us«, explains Dennis Vogt.

To avoid losing track of 120 hours of video material, it was essential to begin reviewing and sorting the footage on the expedition ship and regularly render proxies with Media Encoder. This allowed a great deal of preparatory work to be completed while travelling, making the final editing work in Germany easier and shorter. Premiere Pro CC’s team functions made it easy to involve an assistant team in supporting postproduction and accelerate the work on the film once again.

In the following tutorial, Dennis Vogt shows how he organises the workflow for such large projects and optimises his processes with the help of shortcuts:
