Blender turned 25 this year – and now there are presents!? The D-NOISE add-on for Blender, based on the Nvidia OptiX AI Denoiser, is now also available free of charge for version 2.8. Since its release, the Nvidia OptiX AI Denoiser has found its way into various render engines, including Arnold, Redshift, Octane, V-Ray, Mantra and more. Until now, it has not been possible to offer the OptiX binaries directly with Blender as a download, as this would violate GPL licensing. This would also be the case with the add-on, but as here it can be circumvented by manual installation in the add-on itself.
Denoising Functions
Once installed, the tool has two functions: fast denoising and Advanced Denoising. The denoising process can be applied to any image or sequence in the UV/Image Editor via the Quick D-Noise button.
Advanced Denoising can be found in the Properties panel of the Render Layers and makes it possible, among other things, to use HDRI training data or special AOVs to improve denoising.
Requirements and Installation
Because OptiX only works on Nvidia graphics cards, use of the add-on is also restricted to correspondingly compatible graphics cards.
- Blender 2.79 / 2.80
- Windows 8/10
- NVIDIA GTX 600 Series or newer,
- GeForce driver version 390.xx or newer
