FMX is proud to announce another leading figure in the community for 2019 – Rob Bredow, Head of Industrial Light & Magic, will speak about the visual and physical effects in Solo: A Star Wars Story as well as business aspects of the industry. There will also be a focus on deep learning and artificial intelligence. This will provide an overview from the fundamental concepts to current practical developments.

Rob Bredow – Solo: A Star Wars Story and Studio Insights

As Executive Creative Director and Head of Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Rob Bredow is responsible for the company’s entire creative strategy and its worldwide activities. At FMX 2019, he will give a talk about the BAFTA- and VES-nominated film Solo: A Star Wars Story, on which he was involved as Visual Effects Supervisor and co-producer. Throughout the production, he stood by the filmmakers as a creative partner, from the initial ideas through to the final polish of the visual effects. In addition, Rob Bredow can be announced as the first speaker in the Studio Insights track. The track is curated by Dave Gouge, Head of Marketing & Publicity at Weta Digital, and focuses on the business
aspects of the industry. Their joint discussion will explore topics such as production, changing business models and new forms of content creation.

Andrew Glassner – Deep Learning

The focus of the FMX track Highlights of SIGGRAPH in 2019 will be on deep learning for computer graphics. Deep-learning methods have significant effects on all areas of computer graphics. They are increasingly becoming an indispensable technological tool and accelerating progress in computer graphics for
tasks as diverse as cleaning up noisy images, generating textures and creating lifelike and groundbreaking animations. A tutorial presented by computer-graphics pioneer Andrew Glassner (The Imaginary Institute) will provide a comprehensive overview of the fundamental concepts, notable ideas and terminology of deep learning.

FMX Forum

New Confirmations for the FMX Forum are being added daily. KeenTools, Avid and Chaos Group will be represented with stands at the Marketplace, while Animal Logic, Axis Studios, Illumination Mac Guff, Recom and Scanline VFX will participate in the Recruiting Hub. Chaos Group will also give a workshop. Autodesk and SideFX have booked Company Suites. The School of Visual Arts MFA Computer Arts, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences (Hagenberg), Stuttgart Media University and ifs internationale filmschule köln welcome potential students on the School Campus.

Animation Production Days 2019 – APDs Talent Programme

Emerging producers and alumni of animation and production degree programmes can apply for free participation in Animation Production Days 2019. The programme aims to bring together young talent who want to develop and implement their own project ideas with established experts and decision-makers from the animation industry. Animation projects from the fields of feature film, TV series, short film, game, crossmedia and transmedia with potential for the European or international market can be submitted.
Hybrid formats combining live action with animation are also permitted. A total of 14 places are awarded for the free Talent Programme.
