With De-Lighter, Agisoft has released a new and free tool for removing shadows. The application is used to remove shadows and ambient occlusion. The user only has to mark areas that are lit and areas that are in shadow. You can carry out all necessary processes in the tool – no additional data such as ambient occlusion maps or similar are required.

In addition, the markings do not have to be precise. According to Agisoft, the de-lighting algorithm is currently optimized for 8-bit JPEG-compressed textures.

De-Lighter Process

For a complete process, you must apply the following steps:

  1. Model import via “Import Model” or the “+” button, requires a texture.
  2. Markings using the brushes to classify “lit” and “shadow” groups.
  3. Calculation of the delighting process, either via “Preview” or “Process”
  4. Editing through further adjustment of the areas, suppression of artifacts (Color & Highlight Suppression), Shadow Scale Maps and more
  5. Export via “File” in various file formats or as a .dlz project file
