The well-known production-tracking tool “Shotgun” receives a new extension with “Shotgun Creat.” Shotgun Create is intended to be more efficient to use as a desktop app and to communicate more quickly what currently needs to be worked on. With the new interface, the tool is aimed primarily at the team’s artists and reviewers.
Shotgun Create
To make the workflow more user-friendly, tables are replaced by thumbnails, among other things. The start screen for artists, “My Task,” consists of a visual overview of currently assigned tasks. From there, the respective tasks can also be opened with selected software such as 3ds Max, Houdini, Maya, Photoshop or Nuke.
All comments and information about a task are summarized in a single area—the “Task View.” Changes, notes, conversations, status, versions, submit, time logs and more can be viewed and adjusted. With the new Compare mode, you can also compare different versions of a task side by side, overlaid or in an interactive split-screen mode. Integrated media playback is based on the technology of RV and Flame (Autodesk).
A new screen recording function (soon also available under Linux) is also intended to help team members communicate more effectively.
Price and availability
Shotgun Create runs under Windows 10, macOS 10.11 and Linux CentOS 7.2. The tool comes as an additional download option in a Shotgun subscription. You can currently buy Shotgun (8.4) here for $30 or $50 per month.
