Dates, statements and links are preserved from the original.Anyone thinking about new hardware should currently take another look at the new SSD storage media – especially for larger projects with lots of footage, EXR or RAW formats at high resolutions. Samsung recently presented the 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD at CES 2020, with new support for the PCI Express 4.0 interface. At the exhibition, Samsung presented the successor to the current 970 Pro with 6500 MB/s read and 5000 MB/s write speeds. The limit of the interface is at – and can so far only be used by users with AMD Ryzen 3000 or Threadripper 3000 setups.
Samsung 980 Pro Availability
The new NVMe SSD will be available in M.2 format in 250, 500 and 1000 GByte versions. The release period is expected to be in the second quarter of 2020 – Samsung has not yet provided any information about pricing.
