Artist Denis Zen’s training project showed how to build a realistic hipster hairstyle in Houdini 18 and render it with RenderMan. The package included before-and-after project files, notes and textures.

Scene and groom setup

The guide began with scene preparation and grooming, then moved through the controls needed to shape and refine the hair. The supplied files made it possible to compare the starting point with the completed setup.

Lighting, shading and output

Later sections covered lighting and shading in RenderMan, followed by rendering and compositing. That sequence connected the groom to the final image rather than treating hair generation as an isolated exercise.

Training files

The original free guide included the project material. Test the files with current Houdini and RenderMan versions before using the workflow in production.
