The 93rd Academy Awards moved to 25 April 2021, two months later than originally planned, after COVID-19 halted productions and disrupted release schedules.
Eligibility and technical awards
The Academy also postponed its Scientific and Technical Awards from the planned 20 June date, without announcing a replacement at that time. Deadlines for categories including animated feature and animated short were extended to 1 December 2020.
Production disruption
Academy president David Rubin and chief executive Dawn Hudson said the extensions were intended to give filmmakers time to finish and release work affected by circumstances outside their control. Production teams should consult current Academy rules rather than using these archived dates.
