In brief: VIEW Conference published its 2021 event programme.
Cinematographer Roger Deakins was scheduled to join How to Train Your Dragon director Dean DeBlois and receive the VIEW Visionary Award. The programme also included animation directors Enrico Casarosa of Pixar’s Luca, Carlos López Estrada of Raya and the Last Dragon, and Tom McGrath of The Boss Baby: Family Business.
Highlighted panels included “Badass Women Production Designers,” with Daniela Strijleva of Pixar, Shannon Jeffries of Paramount Animation and Céline Desrumaux of Netflix; “Badass Asian-American Directors,” with Stephanie Stine, Ronnie del Carmen and Elizabeth Ito; and “Storytelling Climate Change,” featuring Allegra LeGrande and Angie Wojak.
“Pioneers in Visual Effects and Computer Graphics” brought together figures including ILM’s John Knoll, Pixar co-founder Alvy Ray Smith and Cornell University’s Don Greenberg. Other sessions included “The Biography of the Pixel” and a look back at the visual effects of Independence Day with Oliver Scholl, Patrick Tatopoulos and Volker Engel.
