24-bit/192 kHz multichannel audio card for Windows PC and MAC
LynxTWO is a half-length PCI card that combines the highest audio quality with synchronisation and expansion capabilities in a way that allows easy integration into even multi-million dollar recording studios without the usual financial outlay.
LynxTWO is suitable as the centrepiece of any Windows or Macintosh-based audio or video workstation. Its features predestine it for applications such as multitrack recording, mastering, video post production, broadcasting, synchronisation and metrological applications. With a sample rate of up to 192 kHz, the LynxTWO is already ideally equipped for the ever-growing DVD-Audio authoring market.
LynxTWO is currently available as a “4 In / 4 Out” configuration. This card, known as model ‘A’, will also be available in ‘2 In / 6 Out’ and ‘6 In / 2 Out’ versions (models ‘B’ and ‘C’ respectively) in the course of 2001. The analogue inputs and outputs are balanced and offer both 4 dBu or -10dBV input levels, which can be switched in pairs. As far as the audio quality and specifications of the LynxTWO are concerned, these far exceed those of the external converters that have had to be used up to now, which often cost several thousand marks.
The digital input and output of the LynxTWO can handle both the AES/EBU and S/PDIF formats with 16, 20 and 24 bits. The transformer-coupled ports are equipped with XLR connectors and work with sample rates of up to 96 kHz. A high-quality sample rate converter offers sample rate conversions of up to 3:1 in the input range.
To expand the number of audio channels and to adapt to different standards, the LynxTWO has two so-called LStream? Ports, each capable of transporting 8 inputs and 8 outputs for 24 bit / 96 kHz audio data. The internal port allows the distribution and synchronisation of audio data between several LynxTWO cards. The external port provides a connection point for various LStream interface modules, which will also be available in 2001. The first modules offer ADAT or TDIF compatibility and are additionally equipped with optical S/PDIF (TOSLINK) connectors.
Video and film producers will appreciate the SMPTE timecode capabilities of the LynxTWO. The LTC reader and generator process all standardised frame rates. The LTC reader tolerates frame rates from 1/30 up to 80 times the nominal rate. The LTC generator can lock to a video reference.
The synchronisation capability of the LynxTWO is another highlight of the card. It is a master at synchronising to all standard reference clocks. The extremely low jitter of the clock generator synchronises to WORD clocks as well as to PAL or NTSC FBAS video signals.
Lynx Studio Technology has been known for extremely high-quality drivers since the LynxONE. This philosophy continues with the LynxTWO. Drivers for Windows 98/ME/NT/2000 and Macintosh are included. The included LynxTWO mixer application allows dedicated control of volume, muting, monitoring, digital format, analogue trim and sample clock settings via software.
LynxTWO is supplied with a 1.80 metre shielded breakout cable for the analogue and digital audio connections and a 0.60 metre cable for external synchronisation.
