Lynx Studio Technology introduced the L22 as a half-length PCI card positioned between the LynxONE and LynxTWO ranges. It offered professional 24-bit/192 kHz audio conversion together with the synchronisation and expansion facilities of the company’s larger cards.
The L22 was intended for Windows- and Macintosh-based audio and video workstations used for mastering, post-production, broadcast and measurement. Based on LynxTWO technology, its analogue circuitry could record or reproduce signals with bandwidth up to 100 kHz and was specified for 115 dB dynamic range.
Low-noise design and digital mixing
Large onboard buffers and a zero-wait-state DMA engine were intended to isolate recording and playback from host-system latency and reduce processor load. A flexible digital mixer provided 16 outputs, each able to combine 16 physical inputs or 16 playback streams at 32-bit precision. Dither algorithms could reduce signals to 8, 16 or 20 bits.
LStream expansion
Two LStream ports added as many as 16 inputs and outputs for ADAT, AES/EBU or TDIF equipment through optional LS-ADAT, LS-AES and LS-TDIF modules. The ports could also connect and synchronise additional L22 or LynxTWO cards for higher channel counts.
Drivers were supplied for Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP and for Mac OS. The control application covered volume, mute, monitoring, digital format, analogue trim and sample-clock settings.
