Optibase announced version 2.7 of the MGW 2000 broadband-streaming platform, combining new functions and improved performance with lower pricing for broadcast and enterprise installations.
MGW 2000 could transmit several live television and video channels over IP networks. It accepted as many as six live analogue signals, encoded them in real time as MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, and streamed them in multicast or unicast mode. The system also supported near-on-demand delivery of ten prerecorded streams, including MP3 files, and interoperated with third-party video servers.
New version 2.7 functions

- New encoding modules with SDI inputs at 720 × 576
Operators could use DSL, fibre and Ethernet LANs for IP-based television. Early deployments included e.Biscom’s fibre service for subscribers in Milan and live debate streams delivered by the Michigan House of Representatives to staff desktops.
DVC Digitalvideo Computing distributed and supported the system in Germany. Optibase’s video technology later became part of VITEC. The MGW 2000 sits in the archive’s streaming and broadcast categories.
