Cambridge Animation Systems, developer of Animo, released new versions of Inkworks and Swiffworks for Maya and 3ds Max.
Inkworks was a cartoon renderer and Swiffworks provided Macromedia Flash output. Both operated as plug-ins, exposing their functions directly within the 3D animation applications.
Inkworks gave 3D objects and animation the visual style of traditional cartoons without requiring artists to reproduce specialist hand-drawn production techniques. Animo users could integrate externally generated 3D sequences and objects directly into a 2D production.
Swiffworks exported 3D objects and animation as SWF files for internet applications. Historical German support was provided by DBS GmbH. The tools connected 3D animation with 2D production.
