Interactive Effects released Piranha HD 3.5 for film and video post-production. The version added project management with batch rendering and archiving, plus a flowchart-style overview for complex compositing and workgroup version control.
Other additions included editing improvements, international font support, real-time warping and support for the SGI DMediaPro DM2 dual-definition video I/O system on Octane2.
Piranha HD was a resolution-independent editing and effects system. Its caching architecture allowed several effects to be combined while maintaining interactive performance. Artists could use layer-based effects or more experimental setups without extensive configuration.
Piranha HD Edit provided uncompressed nonlinear editing at D1, HD 1080i/30 and 2048×1556 film resolutions. EDL support and mastering tools included paint, compositing and effects for late changes.
President Tom Benoist said the release let facilities distribute projects between operators, synchronise workflows and retain control of assets. The European demonstration was scheduled for IBC 2002 in Amsterdam. German information was supplied by DBS GmbH; the system belongs to the VFX archive.
