Audiotrak expanded its USB range with the MAYA 5.1 USB, a portable interface providing two analogue inputs, six analogue outputs, optical S/PDIF input and output, a microphone input and a headphone output.
The six outputs connected directly to active loudspeakers for 5.1 playback. With WinDVD or PowerDVD, the interface supported Dolby Digital/AC-3, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic II, including passthrough to an external decoder.
Connections and operation
The analogue connections used gold-plated RCA sockets. A separate headphone output used a Philips TDA1308 amplifier. The optical ports accepted 3.5 mm optical plugs or TOSLink, while the microphone preamplifier supported dynamic and 5 V condenser headset microphones. Full-duplex operation also supported internet telephony.
Installation used the standard Microsoft USB driver included with Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP. Its compact semitransparent enclosure was intended for mobile projects and performances.
