Optibase MGW 2400 Streams Low-Bitrate Windows Media Video

Munich/Herrsching, 4 November 2002. Optibase and DVC introduced the MGW 2400 hardware encoding gateway with a Windows Media-compatible streaming server.

The system targeted DSL, cable, satellite and enterprise networks, offering near-broadcast quality at low bitrates. Service providers could encode television channels, video on demand and time-shifted TV for delivery to PCs through Windows Media Server and Player.

Corporate, university and government uses included LAN television, internal communication, training and business TV.

The gateway encoded several audio and video channels at up to 2 Mbit/s each and supported multicast, on-demand unicast and multiple unicast streams. An integrated Windows Media Server could control four external servers. Additional functions included live bitrate changes, lower end-to-end latency and SNMP management.

Optibase’s video business later became part of VITEC. The MGW 2400 belongs to the streaming archive.
