Alias|Wavefront launched free Maya Learning Days with universities and training institutions. Three-hour seminars introduced the interface, modelling, rendering, Paint Effects, Artisan and Maya Dynamics.

Professional 3D users demonstrated their working methods through real projects. Planned stops included Cologne, Hanover, Berlin, Vienna and Oberhausen from late October 2002.

The non-commercial Maya Personal Learning Edition for Windows and Mac OS X was also available as a free download. It added watermarks to rendered images and omitted API support, export and several other features.

Maya is now developed by Autodesk. The seminars belong to the Autodesk Maya and training archives.
