Optibase introduced the MGW 5100, a carrier-grade platform for delivering television over IP and ATM access networks. The system targeted broadcast television, video on demand and interactive TV services over xDSL, LMDS and fibre-based infrastructure. Optibase’s video business later became part of VITEC.

The MGW 5100 combined real-time encoding, transcoding and streaming with uploads to a server for network-PVR applications. A single platform could process as many as 36 live or prerecorded channels.

DVB inputs could be converted to lower-bitrate streams for access networks. Supported formats included MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and Windows Media.
