Sony released XPRI 5, updating its Windows 2000 nonlinear editing system after consultation with German broadcasters. New functions included MPEG IMX support, jog/shuttle audio scrubbing, voice-over recording and trackball-controlled 3D effects.
Through SDTI-CP, XPRI transferred MPEG IMX natively without an intermediate conversion. The timeline processed two MPEG IMX streams plus titles in real time and could combine them with uncompressed video. Double-speed transfer shortened preparation, while two decks could alternatively ingest material at normal speed as editors logged and selected scenes.
Every system configuration used the same software, with plug-in support for paint, effects and titling. Media Bar, jog/shuttle and audio-fader control panels supported parameter adjustment and audio work within the editing environment.
For HD production, one timeline could mix uncompressed material and HDCAM. With the King Cobra real-time board, the system processed two HDCAM streams and supported 1080/24p, 25p, 60i and 50i formats.
