RS-422 control enabled batch operation of tape machines, while a sequencer supported scheduled recordings. Ingest wrote MPEG IBP files directly in the .mpg format; Matrox RT2500, DigiSuite and DigiServer boards could also store files without an AVI header. Material could be written back to tape frame-accurately. An integrated browser played programme files, and a module could automatically convert existing MPEG-2 AVI material into MPEG-2 programme streams.
AirBox formed the core of the system. The software controlled MPEG-2 playback and was designed for continuous operation. Operators could change clip order during transmission, use Skip and Jump To for direct access, insert wait or stop commands and synchronise GPI actions with external devices.
An SQL database connection was offered for metadata management and archival workflows.
