Distributor Jocomp promoted Boris RED as a complement to Pinnacle Commotion and offered it to Commotion owners for €999, or €1,158.84 including VAT, until the end of April 2003.
Integration: RED could run inside editing systems such as Pinnacle Liquid or Edition DV, or as a standalone compositing application. Its filters and effects therefore remained available inside the host editor.
Titles: The titler supported still, roll and crawl titles as well as animated 2D and 3D designs. Vector text avoided common anti-aliasing problems.
3D compositing and masks: Work in 3D space expanded layout options, while upstream and downstream masks provided additional control.
Time manipulation: Velocity Remap animated clip speed, with frame blending to interpolate missing frames in slow motion. Temporal Blur supplied further time-based effects.
3D shapes: Images and video clips could be mapped onto spheres, cubes, cylinders or planes.
Library Browser: Users could browse their own presets and more than 1,000 supplied presets by category, inspect thumbnail previews and reuse saved effects or composites inside other projects.
Reusable settings and style palettes: Individual filter settings could be stored. Style palettes retained brush shapes, extrusion types, 3D material properties, splines, gradients, colours, fonts and text properties.
