DVS Introduces Clipster Real-Time Editing Workstation

DVS introduces Clipster, its first editing workstation for uncompressed material at resolutions up to 2K.

Clipster combines film clips with different resolutions, colour spaces and bit depths without first converting or compressing them, preserving the quality of high-resolution material. Editors can choose the project’s output format, an important option for mastering. The project remains in real time throughout the workflow.

The system ships in a 4U enclosure with a silver front panel and an A4-sized tablet and stylus. It uses a Windows platform, a new DVS I/O card, and up to 1.6 TB of disk storage, with further expansion available. The workstation provides an unlimited number of audio tracks and includes crossfades as a standard function.

Clipster accepts data from cameras, telecines or VTRs at any data rate. For 2K RGB at 24p, it transfers the material in real time over a dual-link HD-SDI connection. A workstation equipped with two DVS I/O cards can process 4K at 24p in real time.

When connected to an HD camera, Clipster supports capture, review and editing of the source material. The capture tool provides batch capture, automatic conforming from EDLs, AAF or Excel files, scene selection and scene cutting. Its bin displays thumbnails and relevant clip information, with an alternative list view available.
