Softimage Directs the Fish in Sharkslayer

Softimage Behavior provides the digital choreography for intelligent fish in DreamWorks Animation’s Sharkslayer.

The Softimage system supports the efficient creation of realistic 3D crowd scenes in which fish behave naturally and credibly. Each character responds intuitively to objects, other characters and changes in the environment. Characters can be controlled with editing, scripting and debugging tools or a library of predefined behaviours. The integrated character engine provides real-time inverse kinematics, animation blending and warping, and dynamic path planning.

“Sharkslayer” is the first CGI film to be produced at DreamWorks Animation’s Glendale, California studio. Will Smith, Robert De Niro, Renée Zellweger, Angelina Jolie, Martin Scorsese and Peter Falk are among the performers providing voices for the characters.
