This allows image files from almost any broadcast and production systems to be imported into a central image store (SAN) and saved there with dpx as the target format, for example. With the Preview software player, all files can be played and viewed “direct from disk.” This makes it possible to use the transcoder to implement a SAN solution consisting of a wide range of ingest and processing/editing systems. Because MediaReactor supports WMT-9 and MPEG encoding in addition to file transcoding, it can also be used as a link between post-production and playout servers. The solution processes all common hardware codecs such as Avid, Matrox, SGI, Sun, Pinnacle, AJA, Bluefish, DVS as well as all Windows software codecs. DVC supplies MediaReactor II as a software package for Windows or as a Digital Media Transcoding Station.
