A still server as its basic model, ThunderMX can be expanded into a clip server with up to three record/playback channels. Pinnacle’s new Inflexion engine is the basis for effects and keys. Thus, no additional channel is occupied for a key, and logo inserts can also be realized by overlay via a single channel.

Interoperability with playout servers, editing systems and graphics generators is ensured by support for the MXF format. Even though the software engine is completely new: Access is through the familiar Thunder user interface. As before, content and metadata can be searched and selected via the integrated database; for access via external databases, the server supports the ODBC standard (Open Database Connectivity).
