At the NAB Post/Production World Conference, editor Jacob Rosenberg presented an unusual film project. The documentary Dust to Glory covers the Baja 1000, a race comparable to the Paris-Dakar Rally. More than 50 cameras captured the production in formats ranging from DV and HDCAM to Super 16.
Offline editing was completed in SD on Avid Xpress DV, with Pro Tools used for audio postproduction. Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 and Adobe After Effects 6.5 handled the HD online edit. To establish consistent image quality, DV material was upconverted from 720 × 576 to 1,920 × 1,076 pixels with a Teranex converter. The film and demonstrated picture quality provide another example of affordable HD production.
