Avid iNews Instinct is a tool for journalists creating news reports. Its most immediately visible feature is the monitor’s portrait orientation, initially unfamiliar but practical on closer inspection. The system is intended as a logical extension to existing Avid newsroom products such as iNews, NewsCutter and Avid Unity. Instinct fills the remaining gap in the range, allowing Avid to offer complete end-to-end newsroom solutions.
The Instinct name signals the system’s intended approach: journalists should be able to produce news reports as simply as possible, without learning an NLE. The interface is divided into three sections, displaying data stored in iNews and providing direct access, including search. Picture and text remain directly connected, and automatic speed adjustment can align the pictures with the text. US broadcaster ABC has already ordered 100 iNews Instinct systems.
