Avid has reduced the price of its entry-level software from US$695 to US$495. Competition will determine how much lower it can go. Prices for the Studio bundles have also been reduced. The new Avid Xpress Pro HD 5.1 release adds planned support for P2 and XDCAM.
The Avid Xpress Pro HD Power Pack creates a product tier between Avid Xpress Pro HD and the Studio applications. It includes Avid Studio Toolkit HD and costs US$2,495. Both Studio products are now available for HD, although HDV integration is still missing. The manufacturer says it will follow during 2005.
