At the GC Developer Conference (GCDC), which takes place in Leipzig ahead of the Games Convention from August 16 to 18, 2005, the leading representatives of the British and French developer associations TIGA and APOM will be present for the first time. As a link between developers and publishers, both associations are important mainstays in European game development. According to the organiser, the TIGA and APOM representatives will take part in a joint discussion forum with the German developer association GAME and discuss current developer issues. The GCDC thus offers a forum for overarching European topics of the developer market for the first time.
Both speakers, Fred Hasson and Guillaume de Fondaumière, have a remarkable past. De Fondaumière founded the 3D graphics studio Arxel Tribe together with two architects in 1993. Three years later, through work on “Pilgrim”, he began to gain his first insights into the development of computer games. With departments for 3D graphics and game development, his company Arxel Group became France’s largest independent studio and made its mark especially in the adventure genre. At the beginning of 2004, de Fondaumière then moved to Quantic Dream as managing director and was elected president of the French association APOM in April 2005.
Fred Hasson distinguished himself as an adviser to the Edinburgh International TV Festival and chairman of the Producers Alliance for Cinema and TV producers’ association’s Digital Policy Group through his lobbying for an independently financed education and further training programme. After structural work and further development of the association, he founded The Independent Games Developers Trade Association (TIGA) in 2001, which has since established itself as an interface between publishers and developer studios from Great Britain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria, Finland and Sweden.
