The Access Grid is a new feature at this year’s Siggraph. It is a studio to which, in addition to the protagonists on stage, up to 3,000 people worldwide can be connected: A live orchestra rehearsal with musicians from 10 different countries was shown. The spatially separated participants were connected via modem, ISDN, DSL or leased lines.
The Access Grid system can also be used as a conference system for other occasions, but thanks to its orientation toward high-end video and audio transmissions it is especially suitable for an orchestra rehearsal, as demonstrated at Siggraph.
