Sonic has begun shipping its DVD-authoring software DVDit 6, which also replaces the previous DVD Producer 5 application. DVDit 6 targets the entry-level professional segment.
Key features include what Sonic describes as an intuitive and flexible user interface, support for all common audio, video and image formats, integrated templates and layout tools for designing sophisticated animated menus with audio, stereo VBR and Dolby Digital encoding, and dual-layer support.
DVDit Pro can create films with up to eight audio tracks and 32 subtitle tracks, and define complex behaviours for all objects. The playlist feature allows users to assemble playback sequences and combine slideshows with films for multimedia presentations. The Pro version supports important mastering features including VBR transcoding, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, region coding and copy protection, with output to DVD, DVD-9 or DLT.
DVD Producer users can upgrade to DVDit free of charge.
