Khronos is developing several standards for mobile devices, such as OpenML, Open SL|ES, OpenGL|ES and OpenVG. As the names suggest, they are virtually the little mobile brothers of OpenGL or similar standards for graphics acceleration. The completed OpenVG 1.0 standard was now shown for the first time at IBC. This is an acceleration of vector graphics; the specification of this API is available at http://www.khronos.org/openvg/. It supports the system- and manufacturer-independent display of vector graphics on mobile devices ranging from wristwatches to laptops.

Development of the other standards is continuing in parallel; the most important are OpenGL|ES and OpenSL|ES. OpenGL|ES is in fact the little brother of OpenGL and is used to integrate 3D content into mobile devices and consoles. Version 2.x and a shader model already exist here. OpenSL|ES, by contrast, is used to integrate sound into mobile applications. Among other things, it offers interfaces for 3D sound and MIDI devices.

Detailed information about these and other mobile standards is available on the Khronos website.
