Adobe Systems launches the sixth edition of the Adobe Design Achievement Awards: Up-and-coming creative professionals from graphic design, photography, illustration, animation, digital video editing and computer art are called upon to take part in this international design competition for students. This year, interested parties from design, film and media universities in a total of 24 countries have the opportunity to secure one of the coveted awards.
For the first time, students from Belgium, China, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Singapore, South Africa and Taiwan, in addition to participants from Australia, Germany, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, Austria, Switzerland and the USA, have the opportunity to submit projects in nine categories. These are “Live Action,” “Moving Image,” “Environmental Design,” “Print Design Multi-Page,” “Print Design Single-Page,” “Animation,” “Digital Illustration,” “Digital Photography” and “Interactive Design.” The wide range allows students in many disciplines to compete against one another.
“Emerging as a winner from the Adobe Design Achievement Awards helped me
decisively in my career as a creative professional,” says William Stähle, Design Manager at the American publisher HarperCollins. “As part of the competition, I was able to present my work to some of the world’s largest design agencies. That enabled me to start my career at HarperCollins.”
The participating students from Germany submit their work created with design solutions to Adobe Systems GmbH, Munich. All projects are then judged by a high-ranking, independent jury consisting of Leslie Allen of Cinergy Creative, Julie Beeler of Second Story, Rodolphe Günoden of Dreamworks Animation, Diti Katona of Concrete Design Communications, Masamichi Udagawa of Antenna Design New York Inc. and Jan Wilker of Karlssonwilker inc.
The jury judges the submissions according to the criteria of originality and degree of implementation of the specified project objectives. Three finalists per category are invited to Toronto for the awards ceremony and have the opportunity to present their work there. In addition, during the event and on studio tours, they have the opportunity to exchange ideas with leading personalities from the creative industry. The winners will be announced as part of the awards ceremony in Toronto on July 20, 2006. All winners receive prize money of 5,000 US dollars as well as a selection of Adobe products.
Applications will be accepted until April 28, 2006. The projects will be evaluated in May 2006, and the finalists will be notified immediately afterward. Further details about the Adobe Design Achievement Awards 2006 are available on the competition website.
