Avid is now shipping its Avid iNews Instinct story-composition tool. The software-only system costs €3,700 per workstation. It is intended to enable journalists, newsrooms and producers to create broadcast-ready news segments containing text and video footage without having to learn professional editing.
According to the manufacturer, broadcast journalists benefit from a range of intuitive features and access to all content in a digital Avid news-production environment. They can also create segments easily with text, video and audio voice-overs, then send them to a professional news editor for finishing or directly to a playout server. Avid says this saves considerable time when turning ideas and concepts into complete news segments.
“Voice-over and voice-over sound-on-tape sequences can typically account for 80 to 90 percent of every news programme,” said David Schleifer, Vice President of Broadcast and Workgroups at Avid. “Now that virtual storytelling is possible from every desktop, anyone in the newsroom can perform these tasks. iNews Instinct is the perfect tool for addressing the expanding responsibilities of journalists and other news professionals within organizations. Professionals can work more effectively and produce more segments on time. We are already receiving extremely positive feedback from users such as ABC News, which was among the first to receive a shipment of 100 licences.”
With Avid iNews Instinct, journalists and news professionals can access all data assets within an end-to-end production environment, extending the reach and effectiveness of a workflow throughout the newsroom. The Avid iNews Instinct desktop workspace includes a flexible script and video story assembler, a video-monitoring window, direct access to the newsroom database, and a convenient search facility with comprehensive result display. Users can create segments with video or text, align audio and timing easily, and then send sequences either to craft editors for completion or directly to playout.
