Until March 31, 2006, 3Dconnexion is offering its customers an upgrade program. As part of this program, users of SpaceBall 5000 and older versions, SpaceMouse and SpaceMouse Plus XT and CadMan can purchase the SpacePilot 3D controller for 349 € and thus save 200 euros compared with the list price of 549 euros. The limited-time promotion replaces the upgrade program from fall 2005. Excluded from the upgrade offering are the SpaceTraveler, SpaceNavigator and Cyberpuck products, as well as input devices that customers purchased under special conditions in the Research & Teaching sector. The upgrade offering is available from 3Dconnexion’s distribution partners.

With the SpacePilot, 3Dconnexion markets what the company describes as the “first intelligent 3D controller,” which simplifies workflows in the CAD and DDC market. At the heart of this input device are 21 so-called Speedkeys that can be assigned dynamically. The SpacePilot recognizes the active application and provides the user with corresponding preset functions, which are adapted when the application or mode is changed and shown on the SpacePilot’s LCD display. The device is connected to the computer through a USB interface and, according to the manufacturer, supports more than 120 CAD and DCC applications.
