Eyeon is announcing a Linux version of Fusion 5 at NAB 2006. The software is intended to run under almost all common Linux distributions with at least kernel 2.6 and come onto the market at the next Siggraph. The price of the Linux version is still uncertain, but it is to be oriented toward Shake for Linux.
Fusion 5.0.2 has been released for the PC: Even though the version number suggests only a bug fix, with more than 300 changes this is nevertheless a fairly extensive update that is intended to bring not only greater stability but also several new features. Tools such as Blur, Glow, SoftGlow, Remove Noise, the masking and keying tools are now intended to run up to 30 percent faster. Several points of different polylines can now be adjusted simultaneously. The new version can save RLA and RPF files with 32-bit float and also supports unusual headers in Cineon and DPX files. Ten new functions expand scripting. Eyeon wants to present the next larger update, version 5.0.3, at this year’s Siggraph.
Finally, the supplier is rounding out its Fusion product range with a Learning Edition of Fusion 5, which is available immediately as a download. The Learning Edition is intended to have all features of the full version, but all calculated images are provided with watermarks to prevent commercial use. In addition, it is not possible to use additional plug-ins or open the saved compositions in the full version.
