With Splice, da Vinci is expanding its product line with a new device that enables the user to edit and arrange the material in a manner similar to a telecine suite. It expands existing systems with the functions Pan, Tilt, Zoom, Rotate as well as with functions comparable to an NLE application.
Resolve 3.2 is a new version of da Vinci’s color-grading software. Among other things, it handles grading 10-bit log material in real time. With the new “Transformer” image-processor board, it is intended to be possible to rotate and scale footage in the logarithmic 10-bit color space in previously unseen quality.
In addition, the new version offers so-called “Polygon Windows” to limit effects to specific image areas substantially more precisely than before. The masks may contain up to 100 points and can be tracked onto the film material or animated by keyframes.
The new version also makes it possible to integrate the Cinespace color-calibration system. It ensures that the display on the monitor corresponds exactly to the final look of the material on film. The system also supports the 32-bit and 64-bit version of the CXFS file system, so that studios can integrate Resolve directly into a Silicon Graphics SAN or an ADIC StorNext file system.
