Quantel’s eQ FX is celebrating its premiere at NAB: The system – characterized by the manufacturer as a “workhorse for the entire postproduction” – contains all the necessary tools for broadcasting and postproduction as well as enough storage space to process 160 minutes of HD material. It is based on the new TimeMagic hardware, which is intended to complete all tasks in real time. The system is available immediately, but a price is not yet known.
Quantel promises risk-free news production in HD with Newsbox HD. This is a complete system for the transition to digital production. It includes everything needed for ingesting, processing, viewing and playing out SD or respectively HD material, and is ready for production immediately after being set up and connected, the company advertises. The system costs 250.000 dollars in the HD version and 200.000 dollars in the SD version. A later update from SD to HD is possible.
Finally, Quantel is also presenting its Paintbox on a completely new platform. The new hardware with TimeMagic is intended to quadruple performance compared with the standard graphics system. In addition, the new Paintbox includes version 3.5 of the software, which gives users several new features. These include new Graphic Shapes, blend modes, Motion Blur, advanced DVEs and an improved keyer. In addition, the new Paintbox supports more file formats than before, for example Quicktime files with an alpha channel.
