The most important new product at Filmlight’s NAB booth was the Northlight 2 film scanner, a device considerably improved over its predecessor: According to the manufacturer, Northlight 2 is capable of scanning a 4K image in 0,75 seconds. Compared with the older model, this corresponds to roughly four times the speed. A special scanning attachment scans the perforation along with the image material and automatically stabilizes the image automatically. The scanner works with an 8K CCD and then scales the image down to 4K. This is intended to avoid any aliasing artifacts. To achieve this level of detail, Northlight 2 also received completely new optics. The scanner is available immediately and costs 288.000 British pounds.
Filmlight’s new Baselight HD is a complete system with Filmlight’s color-grading software and 8 TByte of internal storage specifically for processing HD material. The system is housed in a 5-U rack enclosure and contains 16 processor cores. It is expected to be available from July and cost 125.000 British pounds.
With the Truelight Colorist Package, Filmlight is finally offering its color-calibration technology to users who do not use Baselight. The system consists of a probe for the monitor, an SDI or DVI box and the associated software. The box finds its place between the output of the color-grading machine and the monitor. The monitor probe feeds it with the LUTs. The set supports Digital Fusion and Shake, among other things. It is available immediately and costs 16.000 British pounds.
