Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS is one of the development groups working on digital-cinema technology. Under a cooperation agreement with Digital Cinema Initiatives, the consortium of major Hollywood studios, Fraunhofer IIS is developing test procedures to certify digital projectors, servers and other hardware.
At NAB, the research institute showed its Megacine field recorder for Digital Cinema at 2,048 x 1,080 pixels, HD and SD. Input and output connections comprise two HD-SDI inputs, two HD-SDI outputs, FireWire 400 and 2 Gbit/s Fibre Channel. One terabyte stores approximately one hour of 2K recording. An integrated TFT provides basic previewing.
