It keeps appearing in the 3D world and at Siggraph: The Teapot. According to Wikipedia, its full name is “Utah Teapot,” because its creator lived in Utah. The original is a teapot by Melitta that Martin Newell used in 1975 because it was round, had saddle points and could cast shadows on itself. He modeled a three-dimensional model of it and made it available to the 3D community for experimentation.
This year, around 31 years later, the Teapot is still a popular object in the 3D scene. Reason enough for Siggraph to give it its own gallery. Here are some examples from this exhibition tailored to a very special audience:
