2d3 is using Siggraph to present release 4 of its Boujou 3D matchmoving software. Boujou 4 now imports 3D models and places them in the virtual scene. With the help of these 3D objects, it is possible to check the position visually in difficult shots and correct Boujou if necessary. But Boujou 4 also supports the reverse method: 3D objects can now be generated directly in Boujou from the tracker points obtained, for a terrain, for example.

A third main feature is embedded scripting. With the help of a scripting language, the user can control the entire program and integrate it into the already existing production pipeline.

Another new announcement concerned Moujou, 2d3’s Boujou variant for Maya. This plug-in allows shots to be tracked directly in Maya. According to the manufacturer, operation is intended to be very simple, so animators do not have to be retrained.

Moujou costs 460 pounds on the manufacturer’s website and is available now.
