Digidesign software Pro Tools HD 7.2 is now available as an upgrade or full version. It offers numerous new features for mixing and postproduction: Comprehensive automation, expanded video functions, options for incorporating multichannel recordings from field recorders, Dubber/Stem recorder functionality and professional multichannel metering with the new DigiRack plug-in suite SignalTools.
The new mixing and automation functions include, among other things, combining groups in VCA style, pan grouping, linking plug-in parameters, flexible new automation modes and other ICON-exclusive features such as VCA fader spill, surround panning via two panorama controls (so-called “Two-Knob Panning”).
Digidesign also expanded digital video integration in many areas. It now offers the ability to edit video in parallel with the audio material and to use multiple video tracks and playlists within a session. For accelerated review and approval, Pro Tools HD 7.2 has the ability to bounce the video and audio material directly as a Quicktime movie. In addition, common Quicktime formats (including H.264) can now also be played back via Avid Mojo or AVoption V10.
Furthermore, Pro Tools HD 7.2 allows the incorporation of multichannel recordings from hard-disk-based field recorders and switching to alternative audio channels in post sessions. The “DestructivePunch” recording mode turns a Pro Tools HD system into a Dubber/Stem recorder.
Finally, the Pro Tools HD 7.2 software also includes the new SignalTools plug-in suite with various multichannel metering plug-ins as well as other features such as context menus or optimised fade editing and handling.
The upgrade is subject to a charge. The price is around 180 euros. Buyers who purchased (or updated) a Pro Tools HD system after July 1, 2006 receive the upgrade free of charge.
Buyers of the MassivePack 5 or MassivePack Pro 5 plug-in bundles also receive the upgrade free of charge in a special promotion until September 15, 2006.
