Quantel showed version 3.6 of its iQ, eQ and Pablo software for the first time at IBC. Colour-correction additions include a new RGBCMY preset selection. Looks can now be transferred only in part to other shots, while Fettle Color Control adds HSL Fettle.
Quantel said many of the changes came from user-group requests. Segment Based Pan and Scan helps version pan-and-scan work. Batch Network I/O permits simultaneous output to multiple media. Painting can now be performed without swiping, simplifying retouching. Some functions respond to requests from former Henry and Editbox users. History Archive is intended to save as much as 98 percent of the time and disk space required for archiving, while Segment Out with Tails simplifies replacing individual shots.
Version 3.6 is scheduled for November and will be a free update for existing customers with a QCare support contract.
Quantel also introduced Revolver, a new colourist tool and Pablo module that lets users work directly on multiple image layers through an intuitive interface. TimeMagic technology allows most operations to run in real time, and the module can be configured through the Pablo panels. Users can build a cascade of as many as six simultaneous colour corrections without setting keys. Independent hue, saturation and brightness control based on input hue, width and softness allows precise adjustment of the colour space. A simple automatic colour-match function is also included.
Revolver is scheduled to ship with version 3.6 in early November and will be free to existing users with a support contract.
Quantel also showed PabloHD. Its sole distinction from other Pablo systems is the output restriction to HD. It can process sources at higher resolutions, but output is limited to YUV 4:2:2 HD. PabloHD is available now; no price was announced.
Quantel also launched Newsbox HD for Europe at IBC after making it available in the United States at NAB. The pricing model is changing so the HD and SD versions will cost approximately the same. No precise release date was announced.
