IBC: T-VIPS Accelerates Data Exchange

The Norwegian company relies on JPEG2000 for compression

With the JPEG2000 Video Gateway, Norwegian technology company T-VIPS (stand 4.161) offers a new route for compressing SD and HDTV signals for data transport over IP.

Thanks to JPEG2000 compression, the T-VIPS developments TVG430 HD and TVG415 SD are intended to distinguishh themselves through a bit-strong video resolution and a short time delay of less than 100 milliseconds in the end-to-end distribution of video signals. The advantages lie in high error safety, the ability to tolerate encoding and decoding at different times in recording and distribution without a major loss of data, and the ability to edit and combine content frame-accurately, company chief Johnny Dolvik explains.

The TVG Video Gateway data holdings compressed in JPEG2000 are used primarily for real-time feed and storage over IP networks in the professional workflow. Areas of application are the feed of HDTV or SDTV between studio locations or from the studio to the broadcaster without data loss.

T-VIPS is also showing for the first time the new cProcessor, which facilitates regional adoption of MPEG2 transport signals. T-VIPS announced a current project on the penultimate day of the IBC: Satellite operator Telenor will use T-VIPS to supply the respective DVB-T transmitters of Norwegian broadcaster NTV with the digital TV signals to be broadcast via satellite.
